Lymphatic Drainage Massage
A gentle, rhythmic manual lymphatic drainage massage for post-operative recovery support, swelling management and relaxation. Qualified care in Smallfield, near Horley.
Manual lymphatic drainage massage uses light, rhythmic strokes intended to support the natural movement of lymph fluid and promote relaxation. At Massage for Wellness in Smallfield, Caroline is qualified in manual lymphatic drainage and begins with a careful consultation. It is not a substitute for medical diagnosis or specialist lymphoedema care, and medical clearance is required where appropriate.
Manual lymphatic drainage is a gentle, unhurried treatment that feels very different from deep-tissue or sports massage. Caroline applies light, directional strokes designed to support relaxation and the body’s natural fluid-management processes, with the pressure and treatment area tailored to your comfort and health history.
All treatments are delivered by Caroline, an ITEC-qualified, FHT-registered clinical massage therapist based in Smallfield, Surrey.
Manual lymphatic drainage massage is a specialised, light-touch technique using slow, rhythmic movements rather than firm pressure. Caroline is qualified in manual lymphatic drainage and uses a consultation-led approach to decide whether a session is appropriate, which areas can be worked on, and when referral or medical clearance should come first.
This treatment may suit adults seeking gentle wellbeing support, relaxation, or post-operative massage only once their surgeon or clinical team has confirmed it is appropriate. It can also be considered for people who feel puffy or heavy after prolonged sitting or travel, provided there is no unexplained swelling or medical contraindication. If you are unsure, contact Caroline before booking so your circumstances can be discussed safely.

Your Session
Your first appointment begins with a detailed conversation about your health, medication, recent procedures, symptoms and goals. Caroline will explain the gentle technique and check that you are comfortable throughout. You will be appropriately draped, and only the agreed treatment area will be exposed. If there is any concern about unexplained swelling, infection, circulation, heart or kidney health, or your post-operative recovery, treatment will be postponed until you have appropriate medical advice or clearance.

Important suitability guidance
This is a wellbeing massage service, not a diagnostic or medical treatment. It may support comfort and relaxation, but it does not diagnose, cure or replace treatment for lymphoedema, blood clots, infection, cancer-related swelling or any underlying medical condition.
Please seek urgent medical advice for sudden, one-sided, painful, red or hot swelling; chest pain; shortness of breath; fever; or any new swelling without a clear cause. For diagnosed lymphoedema, cancer recovery, heart or kidney conditions, or recent surgery, arrange guidance from your clinical team before booking.
Questions
Manual lymphatic drainage is a specialised light-touch massage technique using slow, rhythmic movements. It is gentler than conventional massage and should begin with a health-focused consultation to establish whether it is suitable for you.
Only after your surgeon, GP or clinical team has confirmed that massage is appropriate for your stage of recovery. Please contact Caroline before booking and bring any relevant aftercare guidance so the session can be planned safely.
Lymphoedema needs assessment and a care plan from an appropriate medical or lymphoedema specialist. Massage for Wellness does not diagnose or replace specialist lymphoedema treatment. Caroline will advise you to seek specialist guidance before booking if you have diagnosed or suspected lymphoedema.
It is not appropriate with unexplained swelling, an active infection, suspected blood clot, acute inflammation, or when you have been advised by a clinician to avoid massage. Certain heart, kidney, cancer-treatment or circulation conditions may also require medical clearance first.
No. Manual lymphatic drainage uses very light pressure and should feel calm and comfortable. Tell Caroline immediately if anything feels uncomfortable so the treatment can be adjusted or stopped.
Lymphatic drainage massage follows the standard appointment rates: £30 for 30 minutes, £45 for 45 minutes, or £60 for 60 minutes. The most suitable length depends on your goals and the outcome of your consultation.
